It’s a Sunday evening in 2024, I’m winding down watching reruns of All In The Family, it hit me, in my 47 years of life and all the times I’ve watched this TV show, I don’t think I know a note of Miller’s music and it had to be pretty popular if he’s in the opening line to an extremely popular television show. So on to Google I go and as someone with an interest in all things WWII, decided to make this my 1st listen. This music lets me “feel” a time that I can only dream about. Not only the beauty and precision in the music and arrangements but the production, that beautiful low-fi sound that must have pumped through household radios along with newsmen who informed the public of what our boys were up to. I feel like a bit of an asshole saying “I wish I was there” because I know they went through absolute hell in whatever theater they fought in and just wanted to come back alive but if I could, I’d like to think I would have enlisted and joined the fight against Nazi German and Imperial Japanese forces. What a time when young men WANTED to defend America and liberate people who were being held and killed by tyrants. Things were made in America, the stars of the time all seemed to carry themselves like gentleman and women were glamorous and beautiful without ever having to have an implant or walk around half naked. From there we progress, boys come home, space race is on, Detroit is pumping out some of its most iconic and incredible automobiles, you could have a family and a nice house on a single income, TV spawned shows and talent that will be talked about and loved for the next thousand years, the birth of Rock n Roll, Elvis etc etc…How did we go from that to this?? Yes there are a few dark spots in our history along the way but I think our Forefathers, the Framers would’ve been pretty proud of our accomplishments up until, idk maybe getting involved in Vietnam? Or at the least how the Vietnam war went. I personally hold nothing against our boys, they’re all heroes in my book, the politicians back in DC? That’s a different story but I digress. In the grand scheme of things, when this tune was coming out of a speaker in someone’s home, it wasn’t THAT long ago. How were we so pro American, so truly conscious of who we were, so grateful that people who were barely more than children were rushing to join the fight and put their lives on the line and now?? People that same age are burning our flag in support of countries that chant for our death? Adults pretending to be the opposite sex, politicians that champion their mental illness, a movement that is anti police and pro anarchy…How the HELL did we go from being so great to what we are now?? For everyone that served in WW2 or any war for that matter, you have my undying respect and support, WW2 seems a bit more special BECAUSE of the men who decided to go. For the ones that are still living among us, I’m sorry for all the anti American garbage going on. If by chance you are reading this or someone who’s family member served, know, there are still some people that will never forget your contributions. We will remember names, dates, places, planes and tank models not because we’re history teachers or writing a paper but because we think that memory should never be washed away. I’d like to think there are more people out there like me who understand your sacrifices and are forever grateful. As for Glenn Miller, knowing he voluntarily went to entertain our soldiers during wartime and tragically died, that is sad but again, a different kind of man. Obviously someone proud to be American and wanted to do his part in the war effort. I’d like to think he’s up there entertaining the young men who never came home, they never have to dodge a bullet or sleep in a ditch ever again. God Bless our Troops, God Bless America. 🇺🇸

I got to fly in the b29 bomber that bears the name Fifi several times, although fortunately not during World II. The last time I saw her was back in 2019, and this song always reminds me of the many times I got to see her in action.

That day in December 1944 Americas greatest was lost. It says alot that his music is still played and loved today. God Bless him and those with him as we enjoy his music today. American Patrol will always be a classic.
